It’s been a long time since you heard from us. It has been busy since we moved back to Pasadena. We have been trying to keep up with our workload. Anyways, we have had a few Portraits the start of Summer and a lot of Weddings. I will be highlighting some of them.

Three years ago, we shot this couple’s beautiful wedding at the Crystal Cathedral. Now, their kids are grown and their dogs are more but Shani & Jeff are still looking young as ever.
The venue for this shoot was at The San Dimas Hike Trail near a creek. Spectacular!

The Family
I had the honor of starting off this wedding season by photographing Howard and Jolene’s fabulous wedding here in Pasadena, Ca. The day started off with Jolene and the ladies at the prestigious and very exclusive Athenaeum, located on the Caltech campus. The couple tied the knot down the street at St Philip’s Church; the ceremony was simply amazing and had a unique touch to it. There was a single part of the wedding that sent chills down my spine though; that was when Jolene sang a song dedicated to Howard. Shortly after that, we headed back to the Athenaeum for their reception. Things were jumping at the reception with non-stop dancing; the bride and groom had some amazing moves to show off. Check out my personal favorites that I took at their wedding below.

I love when the bride and groom spend some alone time; it’s a great time for me to grab some natural images.

The ladies can’t wait to get the party started.

Back to the Athenaeum for the reception.

Howard and Jolene should seriously be on Dancing with the Stars; they danced the night away in style!

It’s our way of making the connection between conservation and community.
The dome and façade lights at City Hall will go dark for an hour at 8 p.m. on March 29th, signaling to all that energy conservation and a sustainable environment make for a better, stronger community.
The City will also host several no/low light events that many Pasadenans can walk to in under 20 minutes. Whatever your plans may be that evening, the City encourages you to try walking to your destination. It’s an easy and healthy way to connect with your environment and your neighbors.
* What YOU can do
You can be a part of Lights Out * Walk About Pasadena by turning off all non-essential lighting and electronics at your home or business and by making your evening car-free. (Walking is an especially good use of our energy!) Go a step further by taking these actions:

It was about 10:42pm, Lorelie and I had just got back from hanging in the relaxing outdoor Jacuzzi, when I had a craving for something tasty. I headed over to the Local Pasadena Pinkberry and picked up a treat for Lorelie and I. It was delicious to the taste and is very desirous.
Can you guess what toppings I chose?

After my shoot at Haute C Boutique, I walked over to the Pasadena City Hall to do some night photography. This year there will be plenty of weddings taking place at the City Hall, so I thought that I would go and find all the best places to take the pictures at. Luckily, I found tons of places (see the pictures below for a few samples) and I am really looking forward to shooting the wedding photos there.

On Saturday, I visited Michelle at Haute C Boutique here in Old Town Pasadena. If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit Haute C, here’s a sneak peak!
When you do make it out to the shop, make sure you to congratulate Michelle on her engagement; she’ll be getting married in May at the very hip Pasadena Museum of Contemporary Art

Christy Thurston-President and Owner of Mirabella Cosmetics

I had the opportunity to meet Christy Thurston on a plane ride to Salt Lake City, Utah in December. We had a nice chat about design, style, art, and creativity. We’ve kept in touch and have several projects that will commence when she comes to visit her Southern California headquarters in the next few weeks.
Christy has some amazing bridal make up tips that will make you shine on your big day. Christy has been gracious enough to let me post some of her tips on my blog to help all of you look your best.
How can I do bridal make-up that’s special and not overdone?
Christy Thurston, president and owner of Mirabella Beauty Products, believes the most important thing is to match the make-up to the setting.
“Morning make-up is different than late afternoon or evening make-up,” she says. “Make-up for an outdoor wedding is different from the look for an indoor wedding.”
A morning event calls for the most natural make-up. Use light foundation and powder, soft pretty shimmers and subtle mattes. Avoid bold lip shades and anything with a full sheen.
Thurston also warns, “Make sure foundations do not have a high SPF content because that will reflect light instead of absorbing it. In photographs, high SPF foundations result in a white face that almost looks like a mask.
Mid-day make-up must be perfectly blended and as close to the natural skin tone as possible, because as the sun intensifies lines, imperfections and heavy-handed application become more visible.
While late afternoon/evening is the best time for photos, this may be when a photographer begins to use a flash, so you may want to start contouring the face with bronzers and incorporating richer tones for lips and cheeks.
Make-up can be more defined and intense, even including shimmers and false lashes, for evening weddings.
“Check your bride in the lighting that she will be in to make sure the intensity is appropriate,” advises Thurston. “Also be sure to adjust the intensity so that your bride does not look flat with flash photography.”
